Worksurface (desk)

Problem

Tips

Corrective Action

I have a gap, sharp edge or lip on my desk.

A gap between two worksurfaces may cause problems if you try to write or position equipment over the gap.

Contact with a sharp edge against your forearm may be a problem.

A lip on the edge where two  worksurfaces join may cause problems if you try to write or position equipment over the lip.

Gap

Determine if the gap can be closed by repositioning the worksurfaces - sometimes they may have moved out of position.

Use a blotter or some other firm surface to span the gap.

Sharp edge

Many times you can eliminate contact with the sharp edge by making sure you are at the correct height in relation to the desk. Check out the Chair section and the Worksurface Height section for details.

If you cannot eliminate contact with the sharp edge the next option is to round off or pad the sharp edge. Contact your supervisor for assistance.

Lip on Worksurface

Use a blotter or some other firm surface to span the lip and smooth it out.

Contact your supervisor for assistance.
