Telephone

Problem

Tips

Corrective Action

I am interested in switching to a headset telephone and want to know more.

More than likely if you use the phone for more than an hour day and your calls tend to be longer than a few minutes you will find headset use beneficial.

Telephone headsets have come a long way with ease of use and acceptable sound quality.

They allow hands-free telephone operation. With  your head and your hands not constrained you are free to:

  • Hold your head and neck in a comfortable neutral position.

  • Use your hands to take notes  and use the keyboard and mouse comfortably.

Headset types

Headsets come in two primary versions: External or Earbud. Personal preference plays a large role in which one will work best for you. Also wireless are becoming available but remain quite expensive.

External Headband - either one ear or both are covered with over the head.

External Ear Loop - held on with a loop over the ear

Ear Bud - an ear bud is molded to fit the ear canal.

Contact your supervisor to discuss your particular situation. Go to Products.

Headset use

To conserve desk space, have a defined place where you will place the headset when you are not using it. A hook on your desk or on the side of the monitor works well.

Contact your supervisor to order a headset. Go to Products to order.
