Keyboard - Position

Step Three - Adjust chair seatpan height and/or worksurface height.

So now you know if you have a fixed or adjustable height worksurface and you know what keyboard technique you use. The last step is to properly position your keyboard. Choose your situation:

Fixed Height/Piano Player

Step One - Adjust Chair

Seated in the keyboard position, adjust the chair seatpan height so your arms are relaxed at your sides with elbows bent to about 900 and wrists straight.

NOTE: If your feet no longer touch the floor you will need to obtain a footrest.

Note: For taller individuals if your knees run into the worksurface contact supervisor  for assistance. It may be possible to raise the worksurface.

Fixed Height/Forearm Support

Step One - Adjust Chair

Seated in the keyboard position, adjust the chair seatpan height position so your forearms would be supported by the worksurface. Shoulders should be relaxed - NOT elevated or slouched.

NOTE: If your feet no longer touch the floor you will need to obtain a footrest.

Note: For taller individuals if your knees run into the worksurface contact  supervisor for assistance. It may be possible to raise the worksurface.

Adjustable Height/Piano Player

Step One - Adjust Chair

Adjust the Chair Seatpan Height to place your feet firmly on the floor and

Step Two - Determine Worksurface Height

Seated in the keyboard position, relax your arms at your side with elbows bent to about 900 and wrists straight.

The distance from your hands to the floor is the recommended worksurface height.

Step Three - Adjust Worksurface Height

Adjust the worksurface height:

  • Wall Panel Mounted - contact supervisor for assistance

  • Free Standing Adjustable - contact supervisor fro assistance
