Handwriting

Problem

Tips

Corrective Action

My hand gets cramps when I write.

Writer's cramp has been noted in the medical literature for hundreds of years.

Wide body pens

A bigger diameter pen can help to reduce the amount of pinch grip used during handwriting. They are available at any office supply store and through www.staples.com.

Penmanship

Many people tend to write with only the fingers moving the pen. Back in the days when penmanship was taught, the technique was to move the arm and hand together as a unit. This reduced the "death grip" on the pen and writer's cramp.

Keyboard use

For many people use of the computer has dramatically reduced the need for handwriting. If this is true for you it is quite important to set-up the keyboard properly.

Based on your situation make the modification that makes the most sense to you.
