Corrective Action

I sit on my leg or with my legs crossed and wonder if this may cause a problem.

These are fairly common seated postures. You may do them for a variety of reasons:

  • Indicates mismatch between the chair size and you - sitting on one leg or with legs crossed tends to lock you into the chair.
  • Indicates a mismatch between your desk height and your chair's  seatpan height - sitting on a leg provides a taller seated posture.
  • Habit - you may have developed this as a habit over the years.
  • The result is an asymmetric seated posture with stress into the back and may also result in decreased circulation into the lower extremities.

Investigation

Spend a little time to investigate how you sit - and why!

How much time to you spend in these positions - a few minutes or hours on end? The longer time you spend the greater the likelihood of you experiencing problems.

Assessment

Honestly if you really only do spend a few minutes sitting on your leg or with your legs crossed; it is probably not a big deal. On the other hand if this is how you typically sit hour after hour:

I am able to adjust my chair and workstation  - no action needed.
