Noise

Problem

Tips

Corrective Action

Office conversation in the office is distracting.

Noise is defined as any unwanted sound - sometimes office conversation fits into this category.

A co-worker speaking loudly on the telephone or to another co-worker in their workspace perhaps is the issue.

Or it may seem like the intersection near your workspace becomes Grand Central Station as people congregate to converse.

Reminder

Many times the individual may not be aware that their conversation is loud enough to be distracting and a tactful reminder may be all that it takes.

Headset

If the person is using a speaker phone a telephone headset may be the answer.

Redirect Noise

Because sound is loudest if you are in the direct path, the person may be able to reorient themselves in the workspace to direct the sound away from you and others.

Sound Barrier

An acoustical (sound) barrier may be put in place to stop the sound waves.

Groups

Groups can be redirected into another area, for example a conference room or lunch room.
